Patience, My Dear

Digital data allows us incredible insight into our business activities. Post a photo on Instagram and receive 1,019 likes - an instant reminder that your photo is awesome and your followers do indeed love you. With google analytics we can understand how many people are visiting our site and what they are looking at right now.

This kind of data is amazing, but I think it sets us up to feel like we deserve instant gratification. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with instant rewards for your efforts, but this kind of world it does makes us forget a little that the good things, the really good things take time. How often do you see your target traffic number or revenue metric and spend an entire year working towards reaching this goal (but, oh how sweet it is once you reach it).

When feeling impatient while waiting for a result to come in, I look to nature: for a plant to grow, the seeds must be planted, the soil watered and nourished and later we can watch stem grow and finally the bloom.

Here are a few ways you can cultivate more patience in your life and business:

  1. Celebrate the small wins along the way
  2. Practice meditation
  3. Keep your eye on the prize: visualize how sweet your big success will feel once it arrives.
  4. Be grateful, especially for the lessons you are learning while you wait.
